Welcome to the Adelaide University Mountain Club for another year! We’re off to a great start with many fantastic new members and a bunch of exciting events coming up over the next few weeks.
If you haven’t re-joined the AUMC in 2016, don’t forget that you can join online.
As always please get in touch if there are any events you’d like to see the club run, if you’d like to hire some gear for a trip, or if you’re keen to get more involved with the running of the AUMC.
Upcoming events

Come and join us for free pizzas and snacks! This AGM is a chance for you to have a say on how you want your AUMC run, including what you like about the AUMC, and what you think could be improved. All positions on the committee are open for election. The meeting will be quick
Mon 28 Mar, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Mount Lofty Summit Attempt
Let’s go for a walk! We will be making an attempt on the Mount Lofty summit from Waterfall Gully. The route is approximately 9 KM return, and is reasonably steep and up a big hill! In return for your efforts, you will be rewarded with a waterfall, maybe some water, beautiful bushland, and a panoramic view of the city.
Unofficial event – Otway Ranges by 4WD
Rhett Hamilton-Smith writes:
I am leading a trip to the Otway Ranges from the morning of Sat 27 February until the evening of Sat 5 March, being 8 days in total. It is a joint trip with members of the Amarok Club of SA. I am extending an invitation to AUMC members to join Serge and myself in my car. I currently have 3 seats available.
The Otway Ranges is along and next to the mid western coast of Victoria, near the 12 Apostles. Temperatures are generally cool, partly due to the mountainous terrain, making it a great place to go in summer. There are numerous waterfalls.
You would need your own tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, and cooking equipment, or hire AUMC equipment.
Costs would be shared fuel and non-fuel costs. Total travel costs will be approximately $323 divided by the number of people in the car including myself.
Indoor climbing
This year the club’s indoor climbing night is Tuesday evening, though many people also still go on Thursdays. All members and non-members are welcome to come along, even if there isn’t a posted event. Committee member Joel is often able to give people a ride to and from the city – get in touch with him by email at secretary@nullaumc.asn.au the day before.
