Let’s go for a walk! We will be making an attempt on the Mount Lofty summit from Waterfall Gully. The route is approximately 9 KM return, and is reasonably steep and up a big hill! In return for your efforts, you will be rewarded with a waterfall, maybe some water, beautiful bushland, and a panoramic view of the city.

The walk usually takes a bit over two hours if you walk, or an hour and a half if you run, but we’ll go at the pace the group sets. Because the days are getting shorter, I strongly recommend carrying a torch for the descent. Good walking shoes are a must as the route can be a little steep in parts.

Other than that, bring along a water bottle and some nuts or trail mix if you’re into that sort of thing. On a good day, you can spot kangaroos and koalas so you may want to bring a camera, though the light is usually bad at dusk. A jacket is essential as it’s usually quite cold at the summit due to the high altitude and/or setting sun and wind.

An unlimited number of people can fit on the mountain, so attendance for this trip will be limited by the transport available. If you’re able to pick people up from the University, please say so on the registration form. We’ll work out how many cars we actually need on the day.
