Mt. Feathertop

Organiser: Michael, Jono, & Ryan
Meet At: Cloisters
Cost: Shared Fuel, ~$80

Hello all,

We are planning a multi-day snow hike around and up Mt. Feathertop in Victoria this July, departing Adelaide the evening of the 5th and returning on the 10th. You don’t need to be super experienced for this, but you must have previous overnight hiking experience and the ability to carry a full pack in mountainous terrain. You must also bring your own comfortable and sturdy waterproof walking boots, waterproof pants, a goretex or equivalent rain jacket, and food.

The hike will begin in Harrietville Vic and we will proceed up Bungalow spur to Federation Hut, where we will say for the night of the 6th. We will then spend the next day walking up the summit of Mt. Feathertop, and will stay in the MUMC (Melbourne Uni Mountain Club) hut that evening. The walk back to the cars in the valley will be either via Spur track or Ovens track, depending on weather or how the group is feeling.

We have allowed an extra day in the trip as a contingency, we may want to use it to stay two nights at one of the huts or we may need to change the itinerary if weather conditions are unfavourable. We will finalise the exact route closer to the trip.

Although we will be staying next to the alpine huts we will be sleeping in tents on the snow. All participants will get more information about the exact gear needed once they have confirmed they are coming.

Camping and snow gear can be borrowed from AUMC (sleeping bag, mat, backpack, stove, alpine tent, gaiters, snow shoes). There is no trip fee for this expedition, but fuel costs will be shared (likely $60-80 per person depending on how many).

Transport will be carpooling via participants personal cars. If you can take your car, please let us know when you register.

If you have any general questions about the required gear or the route please contact Michael Demasi via messenger or
