Hi everybody,

Our big bushwalking trip of the year is coming up in the 2nd week of the mid-semester break. We’re planning to leave Adelaide in the evening on Sunday, 23 September and get back by the evening of Friday the 28th. There’ll probably also be a car going via Arapiles and Melbourne if you won’t be in Adelaide for the start.

Transport will be via private cars. We’ll be starting our walk from the Howqua Historic Area near Mansfield & Mt Buller, and walking a 5 day circuit (3 full days with a short day either side). We’re aiming to visit Ritchie’s, Bindaree, Gantner and Bluff Huts (some of the best huts in the Alps) and the summits of Mt Howitt, Mt Magdela and the Bluff. We’ll probably have the option of staying in the huts most if not all of the nights of the walk but need to bring tents just in case. At the time of writing, it’s been a much better than average snow season with close to 2 metres of snow at the higher Vic resorts so there should still be plenty on the higher peaks and ridges by the time we get there.

If you’re interested in this trip, please register ASAP so that we can send you a gear list and make sure we have transport. If you’re able to bring a car along then please let us know when registering.

Much of the gear that you need can be borrowed from AUMC (sleeping bag, mat, backpack, stove, alpine tent etc.) but you’ll need your own set of comfortable and sturdy walking boots, and will need to have or borrow a goretex or equivalent rain jacket. You don’t need to be super experienced but should have been on a multi-day bushwalk before and be reasonably fit and able to carry a pack in mountainous terrain.

The only costs for this trip are whatever food you bring, and fuel which should be in the range of $55-$80 per person depending on how many people are in each car.

If you have any general questions about the trip and organising transport from Adelaide, please email michael.demasi84@nullgmail.com

Cheers
