Uni boat sheds West Beach
Meet At: Boat Shed
Cost: $5 approx
This is a kayak day trip to explore Snowdon’s Beach and the Port River. We can stop at Port Adelaide for lunch. Dolphins are common in this area. More details closer to the time.
We will meet at the West Beach Boat Shed at 9am, and should be back there by about 4pm. If you have to catch a bus there should be instructions on our website, but if not email me for details: email@example.com . Cost will be $5 which includes petrol money.
Please let me know when you register whether you have a car and can take passengers from the boat shed, or if you need transport.
Bring your lunch in a waterproof bag (2 ziplock bags is best) or buy it at Pt Adelaide, also some snacks and a water bottle, as you get hungry kayaking. Bring a camera or phone, but only if you have something waterproof to keep it in. Also needed: towel and change of clothes for afterwards. There are toilets but no showers.
You will need to wear suitable boating clothes. This includes old sandshoes or boat shoes which can get wet – no thongs or crocks, and leave the socks home. A longsleeved shirt (synthetic) to shed water and protect from sunburn is good, also comfortable shorts or trackpants, shady hat, sunglasses if you like, sunscreen and mosquito repellant. If you get cold a light spray jacket will keep the wind off, and a thermal top or fleece can also be good in cooler weather.
AUMC will supply kayaks, paddles, spraydecks and some drybags for keeping your lunch in. You are required to wear a PFD – we supply these as well. This trip is for people who have been kayaking before.
If you have not paddled with AUMC before you will need to demonstrate a capsize and tow your boat to shore some time during the day. If you are a beginner there are separate basic skills days – please book for one of those.
