Point Lowly

Organiser: Lyndon Zimmermann
Meet At: Cloisters
Cost: $40 (estimated)

2015 I ran a cuttlefish snorkeling trip to Point Lowly, near Whyalla.  We then went to Mt Remarkable for bush camping and bushwalking.

2016 I’m proposing going on the June Longweekend, and heading up to Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges after the snorkel.  I propose we depart from the Cloisters shortly after 8am on the Saturday, drive to Point Lowly, snorkel for a couple of hours, then drive on to Wilpena Pound for Saturday and Sunday nights.  Sunday and Monday morning we’d do some daywalks, Monday afternoon drive back  to Adelaide.

AUMC has some lightweight wetsuits, six sets of mask and snorkel, and a number of sets of fins.  Those who want thicker (warmer) wetsuits will need to either join the SCUBA Club and hire theirs, or hire commercially.  The SCUBA Club is going on the same weekend.

I expect the trip to be suited to novices, with at least a little overnight camping experience.  I will give preference to those who completed the recent ocean snorkel course.

When registering please provide a full ‘legal’ name, and include any nicknames in inverted commas.  Part of the cost of the trip will go toward a ‘training levy’, as recently introduced by the Committee.  I will confirm and co-ordinate by email, so make sure you’re checking it.
