12:00 am - 3:30 am
Due to the high temperatures forecast for both Saturday and Sunday this weekend in consultation with the Park Rangers, we have postponed Crag Care from Sunday 6th March to Saturday 12th March.
The Climbing Club of South Australia is organising a Morialta Crag Care event, giving everyone the opportunity to come along and help protect our crag.
Meet at Gate 17 (Climber’s entrance) on Norton Summit Road at 9:30am. We’ll work till 12pm and then those who want to will go for a climb so bring drinks, morning tea, your lunch and climbing gear!
You will need to wear sturdy shoes, long sleeves and long pants and anyone working at the base of the cliffs will need a helmet. If you have battery drill and know how to treat olive please let us know if you can bring it along.
The great news for this month was that the Rangers & our Volunteer Support Officer came out for their first “Crag Care” site visit and brought the District Ecologist with them. They were all dead impressed with the impact we have made in the area and our Volunteer Support Officer has found some money to buy us some more equipment and to get contractors in to finish treating the remaining blackberry above Far Crag & the Throne Room. Hooray!
They have asked us to focus our energy on treating olive to reduce the fire risk and to hit some of the olives which are popping up near the climbing area entrance where you turn down to Boulder Bridge. Everyone welcome, all sorts of tasks available.
Check the fire rating Saturday evening as if it is declared severe or higher in the Mount Lofty ranges then we can’t go ahead and Crag Care will be cancelled.
Hope to see you next weekend. This is not an AUMC event, so if you have any questions please contact the Crag Care co-ordinator Liz on firstname.lastname@example.org.
