Hi AUMCers,

Last minute kayaking trip – due to perfect weather – 32 degrees!!!!

Tomorrow there will be a kayaking day trip at Second Valley which is amazing. The trip is suitable for beginners. It’ll be a nice relaxing day with lunch on a private beach and possibly swimming, snorkelling and cliff jumping etc. Car pool to be arranged in the morning. We have limited kayaks (maximum 10 on a trailer) so first in best dressed. Email me at if you have any questions.

What you need to bring:

Towel, sunscreen, sun-shielding hat, long sleeves shirt (moisture wicking), swimming clothes, water/bottle (5 litres), first aid kit, whistle, energy food (bars, gels, trail mix), Lunch and dry-bag. And anything else you’d like to take.

Provided equipment:

PLB (beacon), first aid kit, PFDs (life-jacket), spray skirts, paddles, rope, kayaks and kayak trailer.


0745h              Fit PFDs and spray skirts. Load kayaks onto trailer. Organise car pool.

0830h              Drive to Second Valley boat ramp.

1000h              Unload kayaks. Kayak safety induction.

1030h              Kayak following the coast heading south.

1200h              Lunch (south of Second Valley).

1300h              Kayak to Second Valley boat ramp.

1500h              Load kayaks onto trailer and pack up.

1530h              Drive to University Playing Field.

1700h              Wash kayaks and equipment.

1800h              Finish time.

Emergency plan:

In the event of an emergency we will call ‘000’ or activate the PLB. We will contact Jonathan Gobin (AUMC president – not attending the event) to confirm our arrival back at Second Valley Jetty (no later than 1700h). A hard copy of the float plan (emergency plans) will be left at the University Playing Field and a copy emailed to Jonathan Gobin (
