Rhett is organising an unofficial trip:
The Simpson Desert is an iconic, remote and challenging outback adventure and discovery location in northern South Australia. We’re conducting a trip through the desert leaving Adelaide on the 14th July 2015 and returning on the 26th July 2015. It is only accessible by 4wd.
It is anticipated there will be a lot of opportunity for general tourism along the way, as well as walks, photography, videography, dunesliding, stargazing, 4wding, and whatever else we can fit it. It will be winter so it wont be too hot during the day. The nights can get to zero degrees.
One vehicle is currently confirmed for attendance and can carry up to five people. Costs will be approximately $600 for fuel and $250 for other car costs, spread amongst the participants in that car. If you have a 4wd but aren’t sure if you or the vehicle is cut out for the trip please contact us. The other costs will be food, a Desert Parks Pass and satphone hire. The club can provide camping and cooking equipment as required.
This will be a trip of a lifetime so we may get more interest than we can satisfy, so we are operating on an applications basis, and may end up with a list of reserves. Some camping experience is preferred. You are welcome to mention whatever you like on your application and there is no standard form. If you have any medical conditions please mention them on your application. We note that the satphone can bring in medical help in the event of an emergency but it probably wont be as quick as an ambulance in Adelaide.
We are looking for people who are dedicated and won’t let us down at the last minute. An amount of money will be required at departure to cover some of the aforementioned costs. More details will be provided at a later date. We will try to have at least one get together prior to departure.
